IPv6 support: definition
| Canonical ID | ipv6-support |
|---|---|
| Category | Infrastructure |
| Grade impact | Informational, never moves the grade |
| Pass | The domain publishes an AAAA record (IPv6 address). |
| Fail | No AAAA record is published. |
| Example (passing) | example.com. IN AAAA 2001:db8::1 |
IPv6 support across the census
21.8% of graded domains publish an AAAA (IPv6) record (72,634,768 of 332,492,319, as of October 12, 2026).
AAAA-presence measured from raw DNS (Domain Name System) records, scaled to the deduped graded denominator.
Aggregates only: never an individual domain's result.
How this check is scored
IPv6 support is one of the 9 informational checks in methodology v10. It carries no points, so its result never changes the grade. When the result cannot be determined for a domain (a timeout, a SERVFAIL, a redacted source), the check returns N/A and drops out of that domain's scoring denominator. A result that could not be determined is never counted as a fail; a determined absence is.
In the October 2026 census, every graded domain had a determinable result for this check.
Every outcome in the census
| Outcome | Domains | Share of graded domains | In the headline figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Publishes an AAAA record | 72,634,768 | 21.8% | Yes |
| No AAAA record | 259,857,551 | 78.2% | No |

By top-level domain
This splits the share of graded domains that publish an AAAA (IPv6) record by TLD, with generic and country-code TLDs kept apart. A TLD is named below only when at least 100,000 of its domains are in this check's base.
| Kind | Combined share | Highest | Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generic TLDs (gTLDs): 353 TLDs, 234,547,634 domains | 20.4% | .bet 63.3%, .digital 62.9%, .click 60.7% | .bond 3.79%, .xyz 7.08%, .skin 8.26% |
| Country-code TLDs (ccTLDs): 167 TLDs, 97,233,639 domains | 25.4% | .nl 54.1%, .ua 43.1%, .sk 42.9% | .gq 0.04%, .cf 0.07%, .tk 0.16% |
The largest TLD in this base, .com, stands at 19.9% (30,627,408 of 153,849,480).
Kind follows the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) delegation type: every two-letter TLD is a ccTLD. The per-TLD rollup covers 331,781,273 of the 332,492,319 domains in this base. Grade shares for every TLD are on TLDs compared: the census section.
Against the other checks
IPv6 support is the only Infrastructure check with a published figure. Across every check with a published figure it ranks 14th of 24 , below SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record (46.3% of graded domains) and above HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security, 21.4% of HTTPS-serving domains).
Each share is measured on the check's own base, named on its page, so the ranking compares rates across different sets of domains.
