Data Licence
Defaults.Exposed publishes aggregate domain-security statistics in the public interest. You’re free to cite our figures with attribution. Reusing the data in bulk or inside a product requires a licence. Here’s the line.
You may — for free
- Quote our statistics and grade distributions in articles, reports, posts, presentations, and social media.
- Link to any page on this site.
- Reproduce a single chart or table, unaltered, for commentary or news.
…provided you attribute us (below) and show the as-of date.
How to attribute
Cite as Defaults.Exposed (defaults.exposed) with the as-of date shown on the statistic.
Example: “Source: Defaults.Exposed, as of June 2026.”
You need a licence for
Anything beyond citation — including:
- Bulk extraction, scraping, or downloading of the dataset;
- Redistributing the data (in whole or substantial part), or republishing it as a dataset, feed, or API;
- Building the figures into a commercial product, service, model, or report you sell or distribute;
- Training machine-learning models on the dataset at scale.
These are available under a commercial licence — contact [email protected].
The free-citation terms above are equivalent in spirit to Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0 (attribution, non-commercial, no derivatives); the commercial licence is how to go beyond them.
What we publish — and what we don’t
- We publish aggregate patterns only: per-TLD, per-country, and per-industry grade distributions and adoption rates. Every figure is dated.
- We never publish an individual domain’s grade. Owners check their own domain privately, after verifying ownership.
- How we measure: see our methodology.
